2-20 License Requirements

HOW TO GET A 2-20 LICENSE

Licensing Guideline:

STEPS TO OBTAIN 2-20 RESIDENT GENERAL LINES LICENSE:

  1. Complete our General Lines Pre-Licensing (2-20) Department approved course.

  2. Complete the license application and pay the required application fees.

  3. Be at least 18 years old.

  4. Be a current resident of Florida.

  5. Be a U.S. citizen, legal alien with work authorization.

  6. Be fingerprinted at a Department approved fingerprinting site.

  7. If licensed as a 4-40 CSR, complete our Department approved 40 Hour Conversion Course.

  8. If an applicant possesses a 2-20 license and wishes to also hold an adjuster license, applicant must submit adjuster license application and pay the required fees. There is no state examination required.

Detailed Licensing Guidelines

​

Step 1 - You must be:

  • A natural person at least 18 years of age.

  • A resident of the state of Florida.

  • A United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services.

  • Not hold a resident license in another state.

​

Step 2 - Must have the following prerequisite(s) before applying:

  • NO PRIOR INSURANCE EXPERIENCE - Complete our $99 200 hour course in property and casualty insurance, approved by the department, within four (4) years of application date. This option requires you to take the state exam.
    OR

  • IF YOU HAVE PRIOR INSURANCE EXPERIENCE -  If you have completed at least one year within the last four years of responsible insurance duties as a licensed and appointed Customer Representative (4-40), Personal Lines Agent (20-44), or Service Representative (0-55), complete our $99 pre-licensing 40 hour conversion course approved by the Department in the areas of property, casualty, surety, marine and health insurance. This option requires you to take the state exam.

 

Step 3 - Apply:

  • Apply for your license after creating a profile with the Department of Financial Services by following this LINK

 

Step 4 - Send prerequisite(s) to department:

  • We will send proof of course completion within 24 hours of successfully completing your course.

 

Step 5 - Fingerprints:

  • You must be fingerprinted.

  • If you currently hold any other insurance licenses in Florida and have been fingerprinted for the Department of Financial Services in the past 48 months you are not required to be fingerprinted again unless specifically asked to by the Department of Financial Services.

 

Step 6 - Examination:

  • Visit Pearson Vue by clicking on this LINK to register for the state test.

 

Step 7 - Status notification(s):

  • Wait to be notified by the state that your license has been issued.
